Cygnus X-1

This completely hand-made and hand-fabricated pendant

A stunning 15ct garnet my friend @derekkatzenbach (who also happens to be an award winning gem cutter) cut for me using a piece of rough material I provided him. Derek cut a completely unique stone, which in certain light resembles crimson rays trying to escape a beautiful dark void. When back-lit (see photo) the illumination of the garnet really is out of this world.

This truly one-of-a-kind garnet is surrounded by light blue sapphires, red sapphires and lime green sapphires. These are all set in my hand-fabricated 14k yellow and rose gold design. The piece has been dipped in black ruthenium, then high polished. I did this to darken the recesses and add both depth as well as dimension! When creating these types of pendants, I form each line piece by piece, soldering them together to created the organic/scifi feel you see.

After all the stones are set, I hand-detail spot by spot the entire piece front and back.
